(The following is written by my friend’s 12 year old daughter for a school project on Black History Month)

We ignore
What we do see
The violence, the hate
The atrocities
Ku Klux Klan
They must have the right plan
Look at their cross
The way they act the boss
Showing no fear
Causing their tears

The whips upon chains
The cries, brutal pain
Death in the streets
Treated like beasts
Just for skin color
Aren’t we all sisters and brothers?
All from the same father?
Then why do you even bother
Trying to hate
Discriminate
Just because someone’s black?
That idea’s way off track
Sorry man you’ve got it wrong

This poetry sings out a song
Brothers and sisters is what we are
I know that feeling goes very far
We’re all equal,we’re all same
So just leave it alone
But to each their own
I won’t stop you, do what you do
But in the end, when all is through
The punishment will be on you
Ku Klux Klan
It’s the wrong plan
They aren’t the boss
They just burn that cross.
